On Saturday, Lindsey wrote to her two million Instagram followers: “Selling my home [called Lindsey] and moving away from Vail was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. However, the time for ski racing in my life has come to an end and I need to move on.”

Selling my home and moving away from Vail was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I had so many amazing memories that I will take with me forever. My family is still in Vail and I will come back, that is for sure. However, the time for ski racing in my life has come to an end and I need to move on. Being around skiing is hard right now; it reminds me of my injuries and of pain. Hopefully one day that will change. Thank you to everyone who supported me in Vail. You have always welcomed me with open arms and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. Vail is a ski racing town with so much history and I am happy to share just a very small part of that with you. So until I see you again, please make a few runs on “Lindsey’s” for me …🙏🏻❤ï¸Â Love you all *** Part of the article I put in the @vaildaily . Link in bio *** THANK YOU VAIL Dear Vail Valley Community, I am sad to say that I have sold my Vail home this month. I want to personally thank each and every member of the community who supported me throughout my career. When I moved from Minnesota to Vail with my family I was 12 years old. My father, who also moved to Vail as a young ski racer to train with his long-time friend Pepi Gramshammer, knew how much of an impact it could make on me. Going from a small hill in Minnesota to Colorado was the turning point of my career. With the help of Ski Club Vail, I developed the confidence and love for speed that helped me to win the Olympic downhill, 43 Downhill World Cup races, and finish my career with a total of 82 World Cup wins. When I passed 63 wins,“International” on Vail Mountain was renamed after me and it will always be the greatest gift I have ever received. If you told 15-year-old me slipping the course for the 1999 World Championships that this would one day be my namesake, I would have never believed you. What makes it so special is that “Lindsey’s” is not just mine, it can be shared and experienced by anyone brave enough to ski down it. My grandfather passed down his love for the sport to his kids, my father to his, and I hope to spark and pass down that passion to future generations, too. I did not know at 12 years old what …

Preparations are on in full swing for Rana Daggubati and Miheeka Bajaj’s wedding celebrations. They tie the knot on August 8 in Hyderabad. As the two stay in the same neighbourhood — Jubilee Hills — it is making it easier for them to conduct the pre-wedding rituals, given the current scenario. The two held a roka ceremony in May at the Ramanaidu studio.

Talking about his fiancé and why he feels this is the right time for him to get married, Rana was quoted saying earlier, “I think I am growing up and it’s time to get married. My fiancé Miheeka lives 3 km away from my house and we’re in the same vicinity. Sometimes, you know when things are going smoothly. And I don’t question it when things are going correctly. She’s lovely and we make a great pair. We draw positive energy from one another.”

Daggubati had also spoken about how it felt after meeting Bajaj. He stated, “For the first time, I thought we should do it quickly. So, she must have done something. When things are good, I don’t ask questions. I just went with the flow. The girl was right. I can’t put it in words. I met her and felt I can do this long term with her. It happened quickly and in the most simple manner.”

He also went on to talk about his family’s read reaction and said, “They were shocked and extremely happy. It was something they wanted since a long time. I think everyone was just waiting for this to happen. It was a moment of enjoyment for everyone.”

On the work front, Daggubati was gearing up for Haathi Mere Saathi which was all set to release this year on April 2 but was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic that resulted in the global lockdown. He has been a part of films like Housefull 4, Baahubali, Baby, Dum Maaro Dum, Department, and The Ghazi Attack.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen took to social media to share a glimpse of a lazy Sunday afternoon by the fireplace. Pietersen posted a photo on Twitter with the caption: “Sunday is braai day!”

Besides the fireplace, there was some meat kept as Pietersen tried to reflect his mood through the capture.

Earlier, Pietersen revealed it was an email from former India captain Rahul Dravid that helped him master the art of playing spin. Pietersen was one of the better players of spin in England and is rated as one of their finest of all time.

“Dravid wrote me the most beautiful email, explaining the art of playing spin and ever since then it was a whole new world,” Pietersen was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“The key point was looking for the length as soon as the ball was delivered — wait for the spinner and make your decision.”

Pietersen is currently doing commentary in the three-match England and Ireland ODI series.

In an incident that has sent shock waves across the district, a man in Sikandarpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district woke up to realise that a cobra had slithered into his jeans while he was asleep.

The incident took place last week but came to light after a video of the same went viral on social media.

Lovekesh Kumar, labourer who was installing electricity poles and wires, had gone to sleep during lunch time and when he woke up with the cobra in his pants, he slowly stood up and held on to a pole.

Reports claim that Kumar stood holding the pole for almost seven hours till a snake charmer was called in.

The snake charmer cut open his pants and took out the snake.

Local officials and policemen also reached the village on getting information.

Meanwhile, Lovekesh Kumar told local reporters that, “I am a devotee of Lord Shiva and it was he who saved me. Though I was petrified, I remained calm and the snake did not bite me.”

He said that he will now fast on Mondays as a thanksgiving gesture to Lord Shiva.

This is what Naseeruddin Shah has to say about the OTT platform – entertainment

Updated: Aug 03, 2020, 08:43 IST | mid-day online correspondent | Mumbai

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah gives his opinion on the OTT platform and says one has to live with the possibility “that cinemas will one day no longer be there.

Naseeruddin Shah

Naseeruddin Shah

Naseeruddin Shah feels OTT platforms will replace theatres sooner or later. The veteran actor says one has to live with the possibility “that they will one day no longer be there.” He’s also glad that for web releases, directors do not have to give into nonsensical suggestions from producers, distributors and stars.

That’s not all, in an interview with Film Companion recently, he even said how it would be interesting to witness big films on the platform. He said, “And my hope is that people will realise the futility of block-busting, seeti inducing applause inducing, coin throwing kind of movies because that is probably not going to happen anymore. It’s going to be very interesting to see what kind of reaction a Salman Khan film gets on the OTT platform.”

Shah has been a part of the Hindi film industry for more than four decades now. Right from Masoom to Woh Saat Din to Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to Tridev to Karma to A Wednesday to Ishqiya to Aiyaary, he has delivered one galvanising performance after another. He’s now gearing up for a web series on Amazon Prime Video India called Bandish Bandits that will stream from August 4.

Not only cinema, the actor is one of the greatest performers on the stage too and has been a doyen of the world of theatre.

Nick Kyrgios pulls out of US Open 2020, asks players to not be ‘selfish’

Nick Kyrgios pulls out of US Open 2020, asks players to not be ‘selfish’ – sports

Updated: Aug 03, 2020, 09:32 IST | AFP | Sydney

More than 150,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States, with over 4.5 million infections since the beginning of the pandemic

Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios

An emotional Nick Kyrgios pulled out of the US Open Sunday, for “the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have lost their lives”, while pleading with players who attend to not be selfish and act responsibly. His decision follows fellow Australian and world number one Ashleigh Barty last week withdrawing from the Grand Slam in New York, citing “significant risks” from the coronavirus pandemic. “Dear Tennis, I will not be playing this year at the US Open. It hurts me at my core,” Kyrgios, who has consistently called out fellow competitors for not taking the virus seriously enough, said in a video posted on Twitter. “But I’m sitting out for the people, for my Aussies, for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have lost their lives, for all of you.”

More than 150,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States, with over 4.5 million infections since the beginning of the pandemic. The opinionated Kyrgios, ranked just 40 but a major drawcard, last month blasted the ATP as “selfish” for pressing ahead with plans for the US Open, which is scheduled to start on August 31. He tempered criticism of organisers in a passionate letter read during the video, saying he had “no problem” with it being held, citing the need to keep people such as restaurant workers, cleaners, and locker room attendants in work. But Kyrgios had strong words for some of the top names in the game, in a veiled jab at those who took part in Novak Djokovic’s recent ill-fated Adria Tour exhibition, where there was minimal social distancing and players went nightclubbing. “Tennis players, you have to act in the interests of each other and work together,” said the Australian. “You can’t be dancing on tables, money-grabbing your way around Europe or trying to make a quick buck hosting an exhibition — that’s just so selfish. “Think of the other people for once, that’s what this virus is about. It doesn’t care about your world ranking or how much money you have in the bank. Act responsibly.”

‘Stupidity’ blasted
Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki all tested positive for COVID-19 after the Adria Tour and Kyrgios has since waged a running battle with some of those who played, including Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem, blasting their “stupidity” and risky behaviour. The US Tennis Association (USTA) on Friday said they were confident in their safety plans for the event, which will take place in a bubble quarantine setting without spectators. The tennis season has been at a standstill since mid-March due to the virus outbreak worldwide, with Wimbledon cancelled for the first time since World War II.

Calendars have been reshuffled with the WTA tour scheduled to restart on Monday in Palermo, Italy, although a player, who has not been officially identified, tested positive for coronavirus and pulled out. The men are set to get back under way at the Western and Southern Open, a tune-up event for the US Open from August 20-28 in a quarantine environment without spectators at Flushing Meadows. World number one Djokovic, the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, and second-ranked Rafael Nadal, the current US Open champion, were among entries for that event, signalling their likely intent to play the Grand Slam. Serena Williams was also confirmed, but missing from the entry list was Barty, world number two Simona Halep, the current Wimbledon champion, fifth-rated Elina Svitolina and last year’s US Open champion, sixth-ranked Bianca Andreescu.

Centre’s new guidelines for international passengers entering India

Centre’s new guidelines for international passengers entering India – news

Published: Aug 03, 2020, 09:24 IST | IANS | New Delhi

A self-declaration needs to be furnished, vouching for the authenticity of the test report

Photo used for representational purposes

International travellers will be exempted from institutional quarantine on submitting a negative RT-PCR test report on their arrival in India, according to the latest guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

However, “this test should have been conducted within 96 hrs prior to undertaking the journey. The test report should be uploaded on the portal for consideration”, the guidelines say.

Also, a self-declaration needs to be furnished, vouching for the authenticity of the test report.

All others need to give an undertaking on the portal that they would undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days (7 days paid institutional quarantine at their own cost, followed by 7 days isolation at home with self-monitoring of health).

All travellers are also required to submit a self-declaration form on the online portal at least 72 hours before the scheduled travel, according to the new guidelines for inbound international passengers.

Before boarding a flight to India, not only is downloading Arogya Setu app on their mobile devices mandatory but at the time of boarding, only asymptomatic travellers will be allowed to board after thermal screening. The same set of rules will also apply to those crossing through land borders.

During travel, those who have not filled in the self-declaration form on the portal shall fill the same in duplicate in the flight or ship and a copy of it will be given to Health and Immigration officials present at the airport, seaport or landport.

“Alternatively, such travellers may submit a self-declaration form on the online portal at arriving airport/seaport/landport as per the directions of the concerned authorities, if such facility is available,” reads the new guidelines.

While announcements informing about the pandemic need to be made at airports, seaports or landports, precautions such as wearing masks are a must, says the Union Health Ministry.

Upon arrival, thermal screening would be carried out in respect of all the passengers by the health officials present. Thereafter, the self-declaration form filled online will need to be shown to the airport health staff. However, the passengers found to be symptomatic during screening will be immediately isolated and taken to a medical facility as per health protocols.

Post thermal screening, the passengers who have been exempted from institutional quarantine will need to show this exemption to the respective state counters on their cell phones/other mode before being allowed home quarantine for 14 days. The rest will be taken to “suitable institutional quarantine facilities”, which will be arranged by the respective state and UT Governments.

These sets of passengers will be kept under institutional quarantine for a minimum period of 7 days and they shall be tested as per the ICMR protocol. “If they are assessed as asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic/very mild cases, they will be allowed home isolation or isolated in the Covid Care Centre (both public & private facilities) as appropriate,” says the guideline. But, those having mild/ moderate/severe symptoms will be admitted to dedicated Covid Health facilities.

Meanwhile, if found negative, they will be advised to further isolate themselves at home and self-monitor their health for 7 days. “In case any symptoms develop they shall inform the district surveillance officer or the state/national call centre (1075),” it states.

The demise of Sushant Singh Rajput has left an aching void in all of our hearts that may not fill again. It has been more than a month and actors and all his fans still continue to miss him and rewatch and revisit some of his most memorable performances and films. His last film, Dil Bechara, has turned out to be the most watched film on the OTT platform in a week.

The director of that film, Mukesh Chhabra, also known for his casting in many successful Hindi films, has now spoken to Anjali Singh of mid-day.com about Sushant Singh Rajput and what really bothers the director about him.

Watch the interview right here:

For all of those who didn’t know, Chhabra was also involved in the casting of Rajput’s debut film, Kai Po Che, which came out in 2013. Talking about his first meeting with the actor and his first impression, the filmmaker said, “He had done a lot of television and I had no idea, we hardly get time to watch television since we all are busy in our own lives.”

He added, “Shobha Sant made me meet Sushant long time back, but that time I was not casting for Kai Po Che, when Abhishek Kapoor approached me for the film on the lives of three boys, I said ‘okay let’s do it.’ So I met him in Versova and told him I’m casting for a film called Kai Po Che. The film was earlier titled Ahmedabad. He auditioned for the role and he was so charming and his charm worked for the character.”

He continued, “I saw some rushes of the film and loved it, he then did PK with us, I saw that the guy is really good, so I called him for PK and that’s how our journey started and he then went on to become Sushant Singh Rajput, as we all know.” The next question was about the actor’s remarkable qualities that Chhabra could think of as a friend and a filmmaker.

He said, “As a person, he wasn’t only sticking to Bollywood, he had other dreams also and he used to follow each and every dream so he used to follow his sports dream, he used to follow his NASA dream, his love for stars, his love for books. People in Bollywood only think about Bollywood but he used to talk about everything. Like you are in journalism so you’ll only talk about this, but he used to do ten other things and equally well.”

He added, “As a person, very positive and always very charming. You couldn’t talk to him for just 4-5 minutes, you needed at least 2-3 hours. Great Guy! And as an actor, very intelligent, very sharp, he used to write each and every emotion about each and every scene how he’s going to perform. When you shoot a film, you never shoot it linearly, you shoot it non-linearly so you need to make an emotional graph, so he used to be ready with every emotional graph of every emotional scene. Very intelligent actor!”

And what is the one thing that goes on in his mind after his demise? He said, “If there wasn’t this lockdown, we would have met over and over again but that didn’t happen. I wish I could meet him, everyday I think about this. This really bothers me a lot. He spoke to me on my birthday so I kept thinking that he could have met me on that day at my house, but due to the lockdown, we couldn’t meet!”

Record-equalling Jonny Bairstow stars as England clinch Ireland series

Record-equalling Jonny Bairstow stars as England clinch Ireland series – sports

A “revved up” Jonny Bairstow put the disappointment of his Test axe behind him as he equalled the England record for the fastest one-day international fifty during the world champions’ four-wicket, series-clinching, win over Ireland in Saturday’s second one-day international at Southampton. Bairstow’s 21-ball half-century equalled skipper Eoin Morgan’s mark against Australia at Nottingham two years ago and he went on to make a dashing 82. With England’s red and white-ball fixtures overlapping, they are operating two separate squads with the first Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford starting on Wednesday. And player of the match Bairstow, currently out of Test consideration, told Sky Sports: “Sometimes I just need a bit of a rev up every now and again whether that be picking a fight with something on the field or external motivators.”

The wicket-keeper, who went to fifty with a straight six off spinner Andy McBrine, added: “I want to be at the 2023 World Cup and help us retain the trophy.” Bairstow’s exit sparked a mini-collapse that saw three wickets lost for six runs. Both former Ireland batsman Morgan and Moeen Ali fell for ducks as Josh Little — only playing because of Barry McCarthy’s knee injury — followed his dismissal of Bairstow by striking twice in four balls to leave England wobbling at 137-6. But Sam Billings, who saw England home to a six-wicket win in Thursday’s series opener, made 46 not out and David Willey, already a thorn in Ireland’s side with the ball, 47 not out. The pair shared an unbroken stand of 79 as England won with more than 17 overs remaining. Victory left England 2-0 up in a three-match series that concludes at the Ageas Bowl, the venue for a trio of matches being played behind closed doors because of the coronavirus, on Tuesday. Billings might not have been playing this series had Kent colleague Joe Denly been fit.

“Jonny was outstanding at the top and Sam finished it off yet again which shows the amount of depth we have,” said Morgan. Meanwhile Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie admitted his side were “ultimately short (of runs) and those four or five early wickets again didn’t help”. Earlier leg-spinner Adil Rashid, a Yorkshire team-mate of Bairstow and Willey, took a fine 3-34 from 10 overs as Ireland were held to 212-9.- ‘Exciting’ Campher – Curtis Campher again rescued Ireland from a top-order collapse, with his 68 following the South Africa-born all-rounder’s 59 not out on debut on Thursday. Balbirnie, asked if Campher might now be promoted up the order, replied: “It is definitely something we are going to talk about — he has really showed us how to go about it. “I thought he batted brilliantly. His tempo was really good…He has also impressed with the ball. He’s an exciting prospect.” Campher came into bat with Ireland again deep in trouble at 78-5 but responded with a classy 87-ball innings featuring eight fours. This series also launches the new World Cup Super League, which will determine qualification for the 2023 50-over showpiece in India.
